Kings Pointer - Houston Chapter Update Summer 2018

13 Jun 2018 1:44 PM | Arianna Ebers (Administrator)

The Houston Chapter has been quite busy the first half of 2018!

Our AMAZING Alumni volunteers remain active throughout the year attending numerous high school recruiting nights, college fairs, athletic scouting, and Congressional outreach events.  We are always in need of volunteers to represent USMMA at their local high school.  It’s easy to volunteer one night a year, with only a 5 minute commute!  If you would like to give back and be involved, please email our Wonder Woman, Kim Fondren, to be added to the potential list.

Thank you to all the companies who have registered as potential patrons for Midshipmen 2-week internships prospects.  Providing Midshipmen meaningful, industry-related internships is an important learning opportunity.  Teaching various work skill sets, in addition to cadet sailing, is value-add for the Midshipman, and enhances the overall reputation of the Alumni/Academy.

In May, the Chapter sponsored two fine Midshipmen to attend the Offshore Technology Conference.  Midshipmen William Marino and Luke Tiefenthaler c/o 2018 are both smart and impressive young professionals. We wish them luck after graduation.

Our new Chapter Membership Director volunteer is Philip Luongo.  We are very excited for Phil to come aboard to help recruit and connect the Houston Alumni network!  Our “active and registered member” alumni count is currently at 555!  We would be thrilled for more Alumni to join our local network here in Houston!  Please go to our website to register as a Chapter Member.

Under the lead and coordination of Christopher Stafford, the Chapter hosted the following events (each event with 50-110 Alumni in attendance!):

23 June - Incoming Plebe Send Off Luncheon, Co-Hosted with Texas Parent’s Association

2 May - Offshore Technology Conference Alumni Social

3 April - Blue and Gray Golf Pre-Party at St Arnold’s Brewery

1 March – “North Side” of Houston Happy Hour

19 January – Semi Formal Dinner with Maritime Administrator

Thank you to all our sponsors for supporting our local Alumni community.  We wouldn’t have so many successful networking opportunities without your generosity.

Please be sure to check our website for upcoming event details.  We hope to see you at the July Happy Hour, when we welcome our new 2018 Alumni aboard!
